의미있는 순종

[Significant Surrender] Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. -1 Peter 5:6 Throughout history, Mary the mother of Jesus has been held in high esteem. And rightly so! She was singled out by God to deliver the long-awaited Messiah. But before we get lost in the significance of her life, let’s take a look at what it meant for her to surrender to the assignment. Living in a small backwater Galilean village where everyone knew everyone else’s business, she would have to live with the perceived shame of her premarital pregnancy. Explaining to her mother the visits of the angel and the Holy Spirit probably didn’t calm things down. To say nothing of the devastating interruption that her pregnancy would bring to her plans to marry Joseph. And while we are thinking about Joseph, what would she tell him? Would he believe her? In light of these personal ramifications, her response to the angel who told her the news about her role as Jesus’ mother is amazing: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38 ESV). Her words remind us that a life of significance is most often preceded by a heart eager to surrender to God’s will regardless of the cost. What significant experience does God have in store for you? It starts with surrender to Him. 누가복음 1:26-38   [의미 있는 순종] 하나님의 능하신 손아래서 겸손하라 때가 되면 너희를 높이시리라－베드로전서 5:6 역사를 통해 예수님의 모친 마리아는 높이 존경받고 있습니다. 이것은 당연한 일이지요! 마리아는 사람들이 오래 기다리던 메시아를 낳도록 하나님에 의해 선택 되었습니다. 그녀의 인생의 의미를 논하기 전에, 자신에게 부여된 임무에 순종한다는 것이 그녀에게 어떤 의미였는지 살펴봅시다. 모든 사람들이 서로의 생활을 속속들이 잘 알고 지내는 갈릴리 해변의 작은 마을에 살면서, 그녀는 혼전 임신이라는 수치스러운 소문 속에서 살아야만 했을 것입니다. 천사와 성령이 자신에게 찾아와 일러주었던 이야기를 자기 어머니에게 설명해도 별로 소용이 없었을 것입니다. 자신의 혼전 임신이 요셉과 결혼하려는 계획에 엄청나게 방해가 되었음은 말할 필요도 없었을 것입니다. 이러한 상황에서 마리아는 요셉에게 어떻게 이야기할 수 있었을까요? 요셉은 마리아의 말을 믿을 수 있었을까요? 이런 개인적인 복잡한 갈등 속에서도, 예수님의 모친으로서의 역할에 대한 소식을 천사로부터 들었을 때, “주의 계집종이오니 말씀대로 내게 이루어지이다”(눅 1:38)하며 반응한 마리아의 모습은 놀랍습니다. 의미 있는 삶은 어떤 대가를 치르더라도 하나님 뜻에 순종하려는 마음에서 비롯되는 것을 일깨워 주는 말입니다. 하나님은 당신을 위해 어떤 의미 있는 경험을 예비해 두셨을까요? 그것은 주님께 순종할 때 시작됩니다.
